Nutation

Small oscillation of Earth's axis superimposed on precession.

Definition

Nutation superimposes an 18.6-year oscillation (mainly from the lunar node cycle) on the secular precession of Earth's axis. The true equator and equinox oscillate about their mean positions by up to about 9″ in obliquity and 17″ in longitude.
