Privacy Policy

In short

• You can use the sky maps, the heliocentric view and the thesaurus without creating an account or giving your name.
• Your location, when you share it, is used in your browser to draw the sky and is not stored on our server.
• The natal chart uses the birth details you enter. They are sent to OpenAI when a written reading is generated, and payments are handled by Stripe.
• We use first-party cookies to count visits, and Google may use cookies to show ads on article pages, subject to your choice in the consent banner.
• We never sell your personal data.

Your location

When you press “My location”, your browser asks for permission and gives the page your approximate latitude and longitude. The positions of the stars and planets are then computed on your device. The coordinates stay in the page and are not sent to our server or to third parties. You can also type any latitude and longitude by hand.

Natal chart

To build a natal chart you enter a birth date, a birth time, a birth place and, if you wish, a first name. The chart itself is computed in your browser. When you order the illustrated chart or request a written reading, these details are sent to our server, which:

• computes the chart and creates the PDF and image files;
• sends the chart data (first name if given, date and time of birth, place and coordinates, planetary positions) to OpenAI, which generates the written reading. OpenAI processes this data as our service provider. Under its API terms, the data is not used to train its models and may be kept for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring;
• keeps the chart, the reading and the files under a random, hard-to-guess link, so that you can download them again. We do not ask for your email address and do not link this data to an account.

The reading may also be stored in your browser (localStorage) so that it appears again when you come back. You can ask us at any time to delete a chart and its files: send us the link to the chart.

Legal basis: performing the service you request (the chart and, for a paid order, the purchase contract).

Payments

Natal chart orders are paid through Stripe. You enter your payment details and email address on Stripe’s secure checkout page, not on AstroAlgos. Stripe may act as the seller of record for the order and handles taxes, receipts and fraud prevention. We only receive the confirmation that the payment succeeded and a payment reference, which we keep with the order for accounting purposes. See Stripe’s privacy policy.

Donations are made through PayPal, whose privacy policy applies. We do not store any card details.

Audience measurement (first-party cookies)

To understand how the site is used, a small script sets cookies on the astroalgos.com domain and sends a short request to our server on each page view and on some clicks. These cookies are only used for our own statistics. They are not shared with advertisers and are not used to follow you on other websites.

• visitorId: a random identifier that lets us count unique visitors (13 months).
• firstDate, visits, lastVisitDay: date of first visit and number of visits (13 months).
• currentPage, sessionReferers: the current page and the sites that referred you (7 days).
• pagesVisited, lastReferer, clicks: recently visited pages and counts of clicks on some buttons (12 months).
• clickslist, lastSemanticClick: recent clicks on tracked links, such as affiliate links (1 to 30 days).

Our server also keeps technical logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, date and time) to keep the site secure and working. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in measuring the audience and operating the site.

Other technical storage

• _csrf: a security cookie that protects forms against cross-site request forgery (session).
• localStorage: remembers that you dismissed an affiliate suggestion on a sky map, and stores your natal reading.

Google AdSense and your consent

Some article pages (the astronomy thesaurus and similar) show ads served by Google AdSense, publisher ID ca-pub-7080625593207732. The sky map pages do not load AdSense. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a consent banner, provided by Google and certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, before any advertising cookie is set.

If you accept, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. If you refuse, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for frequency capping, fraud prevention and aggregated reporting. You can change your choice at any time with the “Privacy and cookie settings” link that Google displays on the pages with ads, and manage personalised ads in Google Ads Settings. Amazon Associates

AstroAlgos is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and the Amazon EU Associates Programme. Product links (books, telescopes, binoculars, models) use our associate tags (blueplanetcoo-20 on Amazon.com, teleguide-21 on Amazon.fr), and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. To open the Amazon store for your region, your browser compares its time zone and language with a list of stores; this happens on your device and nothing is sent to us. Amazon sets its own cookies only when you follow one of these links.

Transfers outside the European Union

Google, OpenAI and Stripe may process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses signed by these providers.

How long we keep data

• Natal charts and their files: as long as the link is useful to you, or until you ask us to delete them.
• Order records: as long as required for accounting obligations.
• Audience cookies: 13 months at most. Technical logs: a limited time, for security and statistics.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Write to lrem@live.fr; we answer within one month. You can also delete cookies and localStorage in your browser settings at any time. If you think your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or with the authority of your country.

Children

The site is educational and suitable for all ages, but the paid natal chart is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 15.

Changes

We will update this page when the way we handle data changes, and change the date at the top.
